Carlos recently started joining us at MPP and at the end of the last MPP Carlos gave me a copy of one of his latest designs that I’ve dubbed Carlos’ Frankenburr because he hadn’t named it yet. (I’m sure he’s going to make sure that he names his future designs himself now! :-) )
This one started out life as a reasonably standard Burr #305 from Bill Cutler. Carlos then decided it should be made a little more interesting and duly proceeded to chop each of the burr pieces into a series of interlocking pieces that each has a specific assembly sequence… and not only that, those bits will all hold together properly when fully assembled! (That required a bit of thought, no doubt!)
It makes for a reasonably straightforward disassembly providing a lovely pile of unique pieces in six distinct colours. Assembly isn’t a chore and each piece seems to have it’s own personality. Some of them have an obvious place to start to work out where the individual little bits go, but more often than not you’re going to find yourself having to backtrack and start somewhere else once you’ve determined where things need to go.
It’s a really fun puzzle and nice idea, well implemented.
Thanks a stack, Carlos!

My pleasure, Allard! Frankenburr is an excellent name, so it shall be known by that name from now on. I will make it available to download for free later this week.
